In life we all wonder or worry when God will say the sand in our hour glass called life will run out. We often wonder about life’s final "common denominator,” death and as we mourn the death of one of our own. I challenge you to ask yourself what’s going to be left when these feelings of sorrow subside? Are you going to continue to follow the road you were on or are you going to take a different route. The harsh reality is that Jasmine Lynn could’ve been anyone of us. So after the sorrow what are you going to do in remembrance of you AUC/Spelman Sister? A lot of people are saying they want to go home….Why would you leave? If you really feel sorrow, pain, or disheartened by this tragedy then you will take advantage of the education Jasmine was here to get. But this note is not to bash anyone for being afraid, but it is to tell you that fear is not going to help. We need unity among the three colleges. A unified voice that will not only speak out about increasing security in AUC but also a voice that will advocate a helping arm in the community surrounding the AUC. Don’t ever get so complacent that you forget about the world around you. If we want the security to get better we have to get involved and start be active rather than reactive. Because there are kids in the west end who walk these streets to get to school and their life is threatened everyday just like ours are. There is a elementary school, a couple high schools, and thousands of families surrounding this area and they deal with the same threats we do. So are you only going to worry about your own safety or try to help the community in the process? How can you attend a college that promotes excellences and teaches you to change the world and you won’t attempt to change the world around your college. WAKE UP AUC PLEASE WAKE UP It doesn’t make sense that student of 3 of the best colleges in the world can’t wear their college paraphernalia outside the gate of their college without feeling threatening. WAKE UP AUC PLEASE WAKE UP Are you going to sit and wait on change or are you going to make a change? I hope you choose the latter.
To the parents, friends, classmates, and associates of Jasmine Lynn….remember to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord….she is ok now…..tears are ok now….but don’t let her death be temporary sorrow….make sure that what happen to her won’t happen again….I didn’t know here but she was our sister via the AUC and as a Man of Morehouse I am sadden to have lost one of my sister to ignorance….but ignorance is part of our world……just make sure part of the solution and not the problem
2 CORINTHIANS 5:1,6,8 NKJ
1 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord.
8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
